★ Hillside AvePrime · AM East Backlit
Sun 17–29° alt, azimuth 80–92°. Hard rim light on subjects heading downhill toward camera. Peak commuter density. Bengali/Spanish/Caribbean community — Bengali-speaking PA essential. 90 min captures both the early backlit rim and the full commute peak.

Lefferts BlvdSuboptimal · Cross-light fading
Sun 36–48° alt, azimuth 103–120°. Cross-backlit quality degrades after 9:30 — start immediately on arrival. Cultural necessity of this location is near-absolute for the film: Little Guyana Avenue, Hindu mandirs, Sikh/Indo-Caribbean/Trinidadian convergence. The cross-light is still cinematic at 9:00 and acceptable at 9:30. Hindi/Punjabi PA essential.

~35 min, Richmond Hill → Astoria via BQE/LIE. Use arrival time for community outreach — essential at this location before camera-up.

★ Steinway StreetPrime · Midday South Backlit
Window opens 11:30 (sun ahead of south-facing camera). Arrive at 11:00 for outreach and setup — the Arab/Muslim community here is the most surveillance-sensitive on the scout; a 30-min warmup before camera-up is not optional. Peak at solar noon 12:52 PM. Arabic-speaking producer essential. Greek-speaking PA for BID-adjacent blocks. 2.5-hour window gives room for multiple setups.

108th StreetSuboptimal · Past midday peak
Prime midday window ends at 1:30. By 2:00, sun is at ~56° alt / 210° SSW — still useful side-light on the Cyrillic-Hebrew hybrid storefronts, but not the overhead-rim backlit that defines the prime window. The visual texture of Regostan is unique enough that acceptable light is worth more than prime light on a less compelling street. Russian-speaking producer essential. Orthodox photography norms apply — no filming children.

Transit break · Move north
Drive ~30 min to Murray Hill area. Equipment check, meal break, review footage. Optionally extend 108th if light conditions were better than expected. This gap is deliberate — Northern Blvd golden hour is too important to arrive tired at.

★ Northern BlvdPrime · PM West Golden Hour
Sun 15–1° alt, azimuth 270–288°. Camera flips to west-facing (downhill) at 158th–160th St. Subjects walking uphill are backlit in deep gold against Korean signage. The geometric corridor compression at 6:30 PM is the most visually distinctive window of the entire day — low sun, warm tones, Hangul neon catching the last light. Korean-speaking producer essential.

Route Omega — Coverage
Hillside (Bengali/Caribbean, rank #1) · Lefferts (Indo-Caribbean, rank #4) · Steinway (Arab/Mediterranean, rank #3) · 108th St (Bukharian/Russian, rank #7) · Northern (Korean, rank #2). Together these five cover five distinct immigration communities, five languages families, and every sun-geometry window on the scout except the Kissena NW diagonal.
Not Covered — Reserve for Day 2
Kissena Blvd (#5, late NW diagonal 7:00–7:50 PM) · Main St Flushing (#6, densest crowd) · Union Tpke (#8, widest sightline) · Any Hillside or Northern AM-and-PM same-day combo. A second shoot day covering these three plus a Hillside AM re-do would complete the scout.
Alternate — Route Alpha: Three All-Prime Corridors
If production priority is light quality over cultural breadth, Route Alpha covers only prime windows: Hillside (7:00–8:30 AM) → Steinway (11:30 AM–1:30 PM) → Northern (6:00–7:30 PM). Three corridors, all prime, ~4.5 hours of shooting, large gaps mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Appropriate if you're building toward a specific visual standard and can dedicate additional shoot days to the other five corridors.
